Here at Frogpond Farm we believe that creating harmony in nature is the prerequisite for a truly authentic wine
As Ontario’s first, certified organic winery (certified Organic by Pro-Cert Organic) for both the grape growing and the wine making processes, we take pride in crafting premium wines using only sustainable practices.
What we do:
- keep a variety of plants, birds and animals on the farm that create a balanced ecosystem
- Plant herbs and flowers that attract pollinators between rows in the vineyard
- Craft wines only from grapes that we grow
- Make wines that express the grape varieties’ true characteristics and flavours
- Age our red wines before bottling and releasing for sale
- Use electricity only from green/renewable sources (Bullfrog Power)
- Put pomace (crushed grapes) back into the vineyard as fertilizer as well as organic manure
- Use natural pheromones/mating disruption for the grape berry moth pest
- Release Nature’s beneficial, predatory insects into the vineyard to control grape destroying ones
What we do not do:
- Use any (chemical and synthetic) herbicides, fungicides or insecticides in our vineyards
- Use any chemical and synthetic products in our wine-making process
- Use fining agents to clarify our wines
